Spectrum of Research

The connection between established and recent findings and methods in strategic management as well as in logistics research forms the core of the Department's research projects. We contribute to scientific business research on a conceptional, theoretical and empirically sound basis. Besides it is important for us not to neglect the link to practice and to exploit the results and insights for Management practice.

Therefore, our team regularly takes part in leading national and international conferences in order to present the results of the latest research and to support scientific exchange.

Our research (and teaching operations) can be subdivided into the following three areas which exhibit, however, strong interdependence.

General And Strategic Management

  • On what factors does the long continuous success of certain companies result from?
  • What role do specific competitive arrangements have by the companies for the assurance or erosion of their market position?
  • How should a company structure its process of formulating a strategy in order to identify and to make use of their potential for success?
  • How do business cooperations and networks contribute to the competitive position of a company?
  • How should relationships between companies be designed in order to achieve competitive advantages?

Design of Logistic Systems And Supply Chain Management

  • How should efficient logistic systems be designed?
  • Which organizational structures are efficient for company networks?
  • What effects has modern information technology on the design of value adding networks?
  • How can an efficient control of supplies be realized in multi-step distribution channels?
  • What central factors stand in the way of distributing new, more efficient instruments, e.g. electronic transportation markets, and what causes can be identified?
  • How can environmentally friendly re-usable packaging be used efficiently?
  • What consolidation potentials can haulage contractors realize through cooperations?

Management of Logistic Service Providers

  • What special production characteristics have to be considered for managing Logistics Service Providers? What effects do they have?
  • What specific competitive conditions rule on the different logistics markets?
  • What are successful competition orientated strategies to respond to these conditions?
  • How can uncertainty in procurement be reduced by making use of marketing measures?
  • How can the development planning for providers of infrastructure (e.g. airport corporation) be supported by integrated market forecast and financial modeling?
